The Author
Dwayne Clayden is a Canadian author whose bestselling crime thrillers draw on over four decades of frontline emergency experience.
During his remarkable 42-year career, Dwayne served as a police officer, paramedic, tactical medic, firefighter, EMS chief, educator, and academic chair in Alberta. That lifetime of service now fuels his gripping, realistic novels.
His debut novel Crisis Point, the first in the Brad Coulter police procedural series, was a finalist for the Crime Writers of Canada Arthur Ellis Awards and became an Amazon bestseller. The series has grown to include even more bestselling titles and continues to grow. He has since expanded his catalogue to include The Speargrass Series, a gripping western crime thriller set in Montana, and The Bryce Pedley Series, a sharp noir detective saga set in modern-day New York. More thrilling stories are already on the way and always under development.
Beyond his writing, Dwayne is an active member of Canada’s literary community. He has served on the boards of the Crime Writers of Canada and the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society, and previously led the Calgary Crime Writers. He’s a sought-after speaker at conferences and writing groups, including Calgary’s popular When Words Collide (WWC), and he has twice presented as a guest author at the Imagine Writing Retreats in Greece (2023 and 2025).
Dwayne’s public service has earned him numerous accolades, including the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal, the Alberta Lieutenant Governor’s Medal, Calgary’s Long Service Medal, and the Alberta Paramedics Association Award of Excellence. Today, he continues to serve his community—one compelling story at a time.
